Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition, Olive Smythies spent 30 years from 1911-1941 in the Indian jungle in Kumaon area where Jim Corbett, the great slayer of Man eating Tigers and Leopard sprang into fame. The author's husband, Evelyn Smythies was a conservator of Forests based in Naini Tal, the hometown of Corbett also. They became great friends, and they both played a key role in establishing India's first National Park ( now called the Jim. Corbett National Park in 1935. This book mainly deals with tiger hunting, including man eaters, and once the author almost got killed by a large male tiger when it attacked suspended machan, high up on tree branches, where she was sitting to shoot the tiger. The tiger ripped the seat while trying to pull her down. Fortunately, her husband shot and killed the tiger on the last second (see images). There are several thrilling incidents like this in the book. Illustrated with photo plates, a well kept book in a smoke free environment all these 68 years, a small neat signature of the previous owner on the blank page dated 1953, and comes with a crisp laser printed dust jacket. which is brighter and spotless, and thicker than the one originally issued. The book too is very good, clean and spotless. A Very Good volume at a very reasonable price.
