A charming Hollywood tie-in edition of the perennial popular song "Oh Johnny, Oh Johnny, Oh!", originally published in 1917 by lyricist Ed Rose and composer Abe (A.) Olman. This edition was issued to promote the Universal Pictures musical comedy Oh Johnny, How You Can Love! (1940), featuring Be…tty Jane Rhodes and Tom Brown, whose portrait appears prominently on the cover. The song had already enjoyed decades of popularity before being revived for the film, making this an appealing crossover collectible for enthusiasts of Tin Pan Alley music, classic Hollywood musicals, and Universal Studios memorabilia. Although the song itself dates to 1917, this is not the original first edition. Rather, it is a circa 1940 promotional reissue published by Forster Music Publisher, Inc., Chicago, identifiable by the cover advertising the Universal Pictures film while retaining the original MCMXVII (1917) copyright on the music page. The rear cover advertises other Forster publications, consistent with commercial reissues produced during the late 1930s and early 1940s. Condition: Very Good. Complete and firmly bound with no detached pages. Interior music pages remain clean with no handwriting, stamps, or performance markings observed. Covers retain strong color and an attractive photographic portrait of Betty Jane Rhodes and Tom Brown. Light edge wear, minor corner creasing, scattered age toning, and a few small handling marks are present. A white label remains on the rear cover; it has been intentionally left in place to avoid damaging the original paper. The cover image remains attractive, making this a desirable display copy. Unlike most reprints of "Oh Johnny, Oh Johnny, Oh!", this edition directly ties the famous Tin Pan Alley standard to Universal's 1940 musical Oh Johnny, How You Can Love! These movie-promotional sheet music editions were intended to capitalize on renewed public interest in older songs, and they often survive in smaller numbers than the more common 1917 printings. The cover photograph of Betty Jane Rhodes and Tom Brown adds interest for collectors of Golden Age Hollywood memorabilia as well as vintage sheet music. Ed Rose (1892-1979) was a prolific American lyricist whose songs became staples of Tin Pan Alley and early popular music. His collaborations produced numerous enduring standards that remained in print and performance for decades. Abe (A.) Olman (1888-1942) was an American composer and music publisher best known for writing memorable popular songs during the Tin Pan Alley era. His melodies were frequently revived in films, radio broadcasts, and recordings well into the 1940s, helping preserve their popularity with new audiences. Betty Jane Rhodes (1921-2011) was an American actress and singer who enjoyed a successful career in Hollywood during the late 1930s and 1940s. Appearing in musicals for Universal and other studios, she became known for her clear vocal style and wholesome screen presence.
