The issue of financing in education is important because of the increase in the c…osts of children in secondary education, which tend to create economic stress on parents in general and mothers in particular. Given the financing difficulties, and the traditional preferences for sons, poor parents do not appreciate the value of educating their daughters, as they are likely to think that educating boys is more important and more profitable investment, therefore, denying girls the right to education. The book shows that women are willing to finance the education of their children regardless of the sex, but their decision on whom among their children should go to school at the event of little funds available, is influenced by their level of education and the society's attitude towards the education of women and girls. 92 pp. Englisch.

An evaluation of the effectiveness of CPD in the framework of various available approaches to the evaluation of CPD is analysed in the book. It shows that head teachers and teachers both felt the need for CPD for teachers but that this was expressed much more strongly by the heads than by the teachers. The area in which this need was expressed most strongly was in relation to external pressures on schools for new curriculum initiatives and examination performance. In general, the concludes that there is a felt need for CPD and its value for teachers and schools and it confirms the association between teacher quality and pupil examination outcomes. 128 pp. Englisch.

Une évaluation de l'efficacité du DPC dans le cadre des différentes approches disponibles pour l'évaluation du DPC est analysée dans le livre. Elle montre que les chefs d'établissement et les enseignants ont tous deux ressenti le besoin de DPC pour les enseignants, mais que ce besoin a été exprimé beaucoup plus fortement par les chefs d'établissement que par les enseignants. Le domaine dans lequel ce besoin a été le plus fortement exprimé est celui des pressions externes exercées sur les écoles pour qu'elles prennent de nouvelles initiatives en matière de programmes et de résultats aux examens.
