William Beckford, the wealthy British collector par excellence, was one the pioneers of collecting Asian and Islamic artwork and an avid connoisseur also of an eclectic mix of ancient, medieval and Renaissance art, as well as interesting objects from the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries. The text by a number of experts, includes biographical material on Beckford's life, travels and architectural projects including Fonthill Abbey, his Gothic Revival edifice in Wiltshire.
