Seine fruhen Versuche umrahmten kraftvolle Texte mit abstrakten Formen. Im Laufe der Zeit entwickelte er Bildromane, deren Sprache aus unmittelbaren, automatisier…ten Einfallen entstand. Wahrend die gangige Schreibweise den erzahlenden Inhalt betont und die formale Komponente vernachlassigt, spielt diese in der fernostlichen Kalligraphie eine bedeutende Rolle und findet sich auch in der Kunst des Informel. Oberhuber nimmt hier eine besondere Stellung ein: Bei ihm wird das geschriebene Wort zum formalen Wert, das Schreiben selbst wird zum Inhalt. Dieser formale Wert ermoglicht es, den Text in ein Bild zu verwandeln. Diese Monographie bietet erstmals einen umfassenden Uberblick uber Oberhubers Schriftbilder, die von 1948 bis heute entstanden sind. Oswald Oberhuber hat seit 1945 massgeblich das kulturelle Leben in Osterreich gepragt. Der Inhalt umfasst Beitrage von Peter Noever, Peter Weiermair, Peter Weibel und Franz Graf, die Oberhubers Werk aus verschiedenen Perspektiven beleuchten. Zudem werden seine Arbeiten auf verschiedenen Materialien, wie Papier und Leinwand, sowie seine Biografie und die Werke in der Ausstellung prasentiert.
