Parsonson is a richly detailed account of a lesser-known but vital part of Australia's military history. The book traces the formation, operations, and eventual disbandment of the Australian Army Veterinary Corps, which played a crucial role in caring for horses, camels, and other animals used in military service. Here are some highlights: The Corps was established in 1909 and disbanded in 1946 as the army became fully mechanised. It covers the use of animals in conflicts from the Sudan Contingent and Boer War, through World War I and II, including the Imperial Camel Corps. The book includes surprising statistics, like 326,000 horse casualties in the British forces during the Boer War and 7,843 horses sent with the first AIF convoy to the Middle East in 1914. It also describes the Australian Veterinary Hospital in Calais, which could accommodate 1,250 animals and was staffed by 7 officers and 459 men. Parsonson shares anecdotes, such as Banjo Paterson s time as a commanding officer in Egypt and the daily galloping dispatch rider under sniper fire at Gallipoli. Book (2) Only One River to Cross: An Australian Soldier Behind Enemy Line in Korea. Book condition is the same as the previous. A.M. Harris, chronicling his extraordinary experiences during the Korean War. Here s a snapshot of what the book covers: Background: Harris begins with his early life on Buronga Ridge near Mildura and his service with the occupation force in Japan after WWII. Korean War Service: He served with the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), and was wounded on the same day his commanding officer was killed. Behind Enemy Lines: In 1953, Harris returned to Korea to lead a Special Agent Detachment tasked with infiltrating intelligence agents into enemy territory. He and his team completed ten successful missions. Rescue Mission: One mission aimed to rescue British Lieutenant-Colonel Carne, VC, DSO, a POW. The attempt was aborted when the route became too dangerous. Reflection: Thirty years later, Harris visited Gloucester Cathedral and discovered a wooden cross carved by Carne in captivity a poignant moment that ties together the emotional depth of the book. It s a powerful account of courage, loyalty, and the psychological toll of war. If you re into military history or personal stories of resilience Book (3) Defenders of Australia: The Third Australian Division: Citizen Soldiers in the Service of Australian 1916-1991. Book Condition is the same Condition as the previous book. Written by Albert Palazzo. It chronicles the story of the 3rd Australian Division, a citizen-soldier formation that served from 1916 to 1991. Here is a snapshot of what the book covers: Length: 245 pages Focus: The evolution, battles, and legacy of the 3rd Division, including its role in World War I, World War II, and the Cold War. Legacy: Though disbanded in 1991, the division s traditions and spirit continue to influence Australian defence thinking. Weight oof book (1) 0.782kg. Book (2) 0.548kg. Book (3) 0.548kg.
