Einband leicht berieben. - Diese Ausstellung von 120 erlesenen Werken deutscher Kleinplastik aus der Berliner Skulpturenabteilung ist ihrem Inhalte und ihrer Veranlassung nach von besonderer Bedeutung. Das Düsseldorfer Kunstmuseum zeigt sie im Jahre seines 50jährigen Bestehens. Nach der Gründung im Jahre 19…13 faßte der erste Direktor, Karl Koetschau, die verschiedenen Düsseldorfer Kunst-und Kunstgewerbe-Sammlungen innerhalb von zwei Jahrzehnten in einem Institut zusammen. Koetschau kam von den Berliner Museen, die damals in ihrem lebendigen Wachstum und in ihrem sinnvollen und modernen kunstgeschichtlichen Aufbau unter Wilhelm von Bode in höchster Blüte standen und nicht nur für Deutschland Vorbild und Maßstab gaben. Die vor 50 Jahren bestimmende Auffassung vom Museum, die bis heute nicht veraltet ist, wenn man sie sich ernsthaft zu eigen macht, hat in Düsseldorf unter Koetschau und seinen Nachfolgern bis heute reiche Frucht getragen und ein Museum erwachsen lassen, das nicht nur eine Einheit in seiner Vielfalt ist, sondern auch alle Voraussetzungen für eine wirkungsvolle Museumsarbeit in einer modernen Großstadt bietet.
