Oktober und dem 9. Dezember 1925 vor dem Münchner Amtsgericht durchgeführten Strafprozess. Dort war der Redakteur der sozialdemokratischen Tageszeitung "Münchener Post", Martin Gruber (1866-1936), wegen Beleidigung und übler Nachrede angeklagt. Als Kläger trat der Herausgeber der nationalistisch ausgerichteten Zeitschrift "Süddeutsche Monatshefte", Paul Nikolaus Cossmann (1869-1942), auf. Der Prozess endete mit einer Verurteilung des Angeklagten zu einer Geldstrafe von 3.000 Reichsmark. Die Bedeutung des Prozesses lag nicht im eigentlichen Gegenstand der Verhandlung; vielmehr strebten beide Parteien danach, über das öffentliche Forum die innenpolitisch umstrittene Frage nach den Ursachen der militärischen Niederlage im Ersten Weltkrieg in ihrem Sinne zu klären. Rückblickend hatte der Münchner "Dolchstoßprozess" drei Ergebnisse gezeitigt: erstens die Einsicht in die Unmöglichkeit einer juristischen Klärung derart komplexer historischer Sachverhalte. Zweitens hatte die "Dolchstoß"-These nach dem Münchner Urteil - allen Bekundungen ihrer Verfechter zum Trotz - in der breiten Öffentlichkeit an Überzeugungskraft verloren.
