Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - 'Spenser in Ireland' is a scholarly examination of the profound influence that Ireland exerted on the life and literary output of the renowned Elizabethan poet Edmund Spenser. This work delves into Spenser's dual role as a colonial administrator and a man of letters, exploring how his experiences in the Irish landscape and his involvement in the political upheavals of the era shaped his most significant works, including 'The Faerie Queene' and 'A View of the Present State of Ireland.'The study provides a detailed account of Spenser's residence at Kilcolman Castle, his interactions with his contemporaries, and the historical context of the Munster Plantation. By tracing the echoes of Irish geography, folklore, and conflict throughout his poetry and prose, this work offers critical insights into the complex relationship between literature and empire. 'Spenser in Ireland' remains a significant resource for students of English literature and Irish history, providing a nuanced perspective on one of the most formative periods in the cultural history of the British Isles. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible. "To consider Spenser as a poet, to travel through his 'realme of Faerie,' sharing in the adventures of his heroes and heroines, be they creatures of heathen mythology, or embodied conceptions of Christian virtues, would be a pleasant task. The many enchanting pictures with their dream-like atmosphere, the matchless melody of the verse, could charm one to forget that it is an allegory, and meant to instil moral lessons." ------- from (Chapter I.Introduction).
