Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Introduction to The Song(s) of RolandMy poems need to intrigue me first or they'll have no chance of interesting you, the reader. I work hard to make some sense of the world we live in-- I'm still working out the details. Before I became a writer of poems, (and editor and publisher at Zoland Books, ) I was a photographer, enrolled in the New England School of Photography in the first year of their existence in 1968, and worked as a wirephoto operator at the Boston bureau of the Associated Press. I spent endless hours in darkrooms working and reworking images, including the one of light on water on the cover of this collection. Many of my poems tend to be brief, (some are surprisingly so, )and that's because my eye tends to capture images and concepts in a concise manner, not unlike the photographs I spent much time creating. Words are what guide me, and as the poet William Corbett wrote, "A real poem is always in/the right and only words." I certainly believe that to be true, and do my best to follow suit.I choose to order my collections alphabetically, as the randomness intrigues me, and since many readers bounce back and forth from one page to another anyway, rather than reading sequentially, I don't think many will complain or even notice.I'm very serious about my work, but I do like to play with words. If it's to your liking, great, if not, you can hold your tongue.P.S. The medieval French epic Chanson de Roland has followed me all my life, why wonder why. Roland, Charlemagne's nephew, has nothing to do with me except for his name. I beg your indulgence. This item is printed on demand.
