Joven todavía y en compañía de sus padres se trasladó al Perú. En 1615 era alumno del Colegio de San Antón del Cuzco. A partir de 1621 comenzó sus estudios de Teología en el Colegio de San Martín de Lima, de la Compañía de Jesús. Ese mismo año ingresó como Franciscano, con destino en la Provincia de los Doce Apóstoles del Perú. Completó sus estudios en las Casas de Estudio de los Franciscanos, y al terminar se dedicó a la predicación y la enseñanza de la Teología: llegó a opositar para obtener el título de lector en Artes y Teología; regentó la cátedra de Artes en el convento de San Antonio de Chuquisaca (Sucre) entre 1630 y 1635, año en que ocupó la cátedra de Vísperas en el colegio de San Buenaventura de Jesús, en Lima. Entonces fue nombrado visitador de Panamá y Cartagena de Indias, además de custodio de la Provincia de los Doce Apóstoles. En su condición de comisario general de las Provincias Franciscanas de Indias, vino a España en 1645 para resolver la alternativa de cargos entre criollos y peninsulares dentro de su Orden, y como procurador de la causa de beatificación de san Francisco de Solano. Asistió al Capítulo General que se celebró en Toledo, donde defendió unas conclusiones sobre las prerrogativas de san Francisco de Asís que le valieron caer bajo sospecha de la Inquisición por largo tiempo. 30x20 cm.
