The first UK edition of this translation of poetry by Charles Peguy, comprised of 'The Mystery of The Holy Innocents' and other poems. The first UK edition and the first English translation. Bound in the publisher's original cloth, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper.Translated by Pansy Pakenham, with a foreword by Alexander Dru. This uncommon work is comprised of the poetry of French writer, Charles Peguy, who was best known for his poetry and essays surrounding socialism and nationalism. Born in 1873, Peguy spent most of his life agnostic, before becoming Roman Catholic in around 1908. This belief is reflected in his work, such as this collection of poetry. This collection contains Péguy's long poem 'The Mystery of The Holy Innocents' as well as the shorter poems 'Castles of the Loire', 'Presentation of the Beauce to Our Lady of Chartres', 'A Prayer in Confidence', 'Prayer for a Credit to be carried Forward' and extracts from 'Eve'. Bound in the publisher's original cloth, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with light bumping to the extremities and the odd mark to cloth. Light fading to the extremities and spine. Slight offsetting to endpapers. Dust wrapper is smart, with light edge wear and the odd small tear to the extremities. Sunning to the spine, with light tide marks to the wrap extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, with the odd light spot to the first and last pages. Very Good Indeed. book.
