A Dun-le-Palestel dans la Creuse la maison de famille du narrateur en a si gros sur le c?ur et tant à dire qu'on va la confesser pièce après pièce l'écouter se raconter souvenirs dérangés vérités arrangées les choses et les gens tels qu'ils furent les échos et les ombres qu'il en reste. Elle finira bien par lâcher cequ'elle sait. Elle sait l'histoire d'un père qui lui avait choisi de se taire. Fine.

Paez participated in the Portuguese padroado missions, initially in India before moving to Ethiopia, a region long associated with the legendary Prester John. His historical account of Ethiopia, composed in Portuguese during the last decade of his life, exists in only two surviving manuscripts. The translation is undertaken by Christopher J. Tribe and is based on a new critical edition of the original Portuguese text, which was edited by Isabel Boavida, Hervé Pennec, and Manuel Joao Ramos, and published in Lisbon in 2008.The *History of Ethiopia* serves as a crucial resource across multiple fields of study. It encompasses subjects such as the history of Catholic missions in Ethiopia, the dynamics between different European religious orders, and the rich tapestry of Ethiopian art and religion. Its scope extends to geographical exploration, the ideological framing of the Ethiopian kingdom, and analyses of material culture, alongside Abyssinian political and territorial governance. Additionally, the work provides insights into local contexts and the evolving human ecology in the Horn of Africa and the Indian Ocean. The text acts as a repository of empirical knowledge about Ethiopia?s political geography, religious practices, customs, and its diverse flora and fauna. By intertwining travel narratives with a historico-ethnographic approach, this translation offers both a comprehensive historical account and a vivid depiction of Ethiopia during Paez?s lifetime.
