Penzig provides a comprehensive illustrated description of most of the costumes, artifacts and weapons used by colonial women during Australia's wild colonial days. Consists of a series of stories, arranged loosely from 1850 to 1900, recreating mental pictures of these colourful and turbulent times. This book is deliberately not set out in specific chapters, but presented more like a colonial collage of the period between 1850 and 1900. This is the history (in photos and prose) of women who by their efforts were equally responsible as the colonial male in developing and building the country of Australia during its formative years.
