Modern reprint of the original antique fruity recipe booklet. Charming and delightful things to stir up in your kitchen. 12 pages including covers. Paperback. Very good, like new, minimal wear from being moved around the bookshop. No defects. About, Subject, Related Details: Avon's founder, David H. McConnell, initially sold books as a door-to-door salesman to New York homes. In September 1886, he decided to sell perfumes rather than books. He started the new business in a small office at 126 Chambers Street, Manhattan, New York. McConnell changed the company name in 1892. His business partner suggested calling it the "California Perfume Company." His business partner was living in California at the time and suggested the name because of the abundance of flowers in California. (Source: Wikipedia.) ~ Arrives shrink wrapped, well packed. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. "This is not a book for experts. It is a book that creates them."There is a moment familiar to anyone who has spent time around fragrance. A scent stops you in the middle of an ordinary day - and you cannot name it. It might be the amber warmth of someone passing in a corridor, or the sharp green of a garden after rain that a perfume somehow captures exactly. The experience lasts seconds. The memory can last years. The Art and Science of Perfume gives you the words, the knowledge, and the framework to understand that experience fully. Eight parts. Forty chapters. 319 pages. Nothing is assumed beyond curiosity. What the book coversPart One - A History of Perfume (7 chapters)From the incense temples of ancient Egypt and the alchemical distillation techniques of the Arab world, through Renaissance Europe and the synthetic revolution of the 19th century, to the golden age of French perfumery and the rise of niche houses. Nothing in contemporary perfumery makes sense without this foundation.Part Two - The Science of Smell (4 chapters)How the nose detects aroma molecules. How the brain processes olfactory information differently from every other sense. How skin chemistry alters a fragrance in the hours after application. This is the section most likely to change how you smell for the rest of your life.Part Three - Understanding Fragrance (4 chapters)The architecture of a composition - top, heart, and base. The practical meaning of concentration: EdP versus EdT versus parfum. How longevity, sillage, and projection actually work, and how to read a fragrance with trained attention.Part Four - The Olfactive Families (6 chapters)The classification systems used by professionals. A detailed study of the major families: Floral, Oriental and Amber, Woody, Fresh and Aquatic, Chypre, and Fougere - with the shared vocabulary to describe where any fragrance sits and why.Part Five - The Great Perfumers (6 chapters)The artists who defined the discipline: Francois Coty, Ernest Beaux, Edmond Roudnitska, Jean-Claude Ellena, Sheldrake and Lutens. What made their work exceptional, and what it teaches about composition and creativity.Part Six - Raw Materials (3 chapters)Naturals versus synthetics - the real argument, clearly explained. The supply chain from field to formula. The ingredients every informed buyer should be able to recognise and evaluate.Part Seven - How to Buy and Evaluate Fragrance (7 chapters)How to smell methodically. How to navigate the market without being misled. Fragrance and occasion. Building your first considered collection. Ten fragrances chosen specifically to train your nose. How to test longevity properly. How to avoid wasted purchases.Part Eight - ReferenceA full glossary of fragrance terminology, a historical timeline of perfumery, and a curated further reading list.A reader who works through to the final page will leave with the foundation of someone who genuinely understands the subject - not because this book contains every fact in the field, but because it provides the structure through which everything else begins to make sense.319 pages - 8 parts - 40 chapters - Published by Camerune Perfume Atelier This item is printed on demand. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Aggiungi al carrelloBritish industrial designer (1895-1961); Chief Instructor, Design, Royal College of Art, 1925-35. The two carbons to Capey from Luckhurst, one page, 12mo; the other three letters, one page, quarto. All very good, though somewhat dusty and lightly creased, and with staple holes to the top left-hand corners. Throwing useful light on the state of post-war art education, the correspondence concerns a request to Luckhurst from 'one-time Fellow of the Society' Hollewell for 'information and advice in regard to my daughter's future training'. 'She is now nearly 17 years of age, is attending the local High School and shows exceptional aptitude in Art. [.] | I suppose that commercial art is the most suitable for lucrative employment, but I should be pleased to have your views on this.' Luckhurst writes to Capey that Hollewell's letter 'asks for advice which I always find it very difficult to give'. Capey suggests sending Hollewell the Royal College of Art prospectus, and informing him that 'Any art student, who is proposing to make a profession of art, should safeguard his or her future by obtaining a degree. The Royal College of Art is the main recognised Institution for this purpose. There are others such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Dundee Colleges, but the degrees offered by them are not of much consequence. | Of the schools suggested by Mr. Hollewell, the Slade is essentially Painting. The Chelsea Art School and the Colleges at Birmingham, Leicester and Nottingham are good of their kind, but I would suggest that for general purposes the London Central School of Arts and Crafts is second best to the Royal College of Art.' Luckhurst incorporates this information in his reply to Hollewell, and thanks Capey in his second letter to him.
