In common with other contemporary art, video users are somewhat pre-occupied with the use of its own marks and materials: specialization in technique is dominant. Many of the contributors examine their work, making references in a historical context to the performances and tapes of other video artists, first noting the precedents of painting, film and architecture, etc. and then explaining in their own terms their individual activities, almost it seems to find out exactly what they think they are doing. Television technology is mirrored in video when it shows off its attractive electronic features by literally turning the camera onto itself in an act of synthesized feedback, plus other circuit configurations.
