Aggiungi al carrelloSECOND EDITION circa 1915 (first published by Henry Frowde in [1908]), small format, 12mo, 108 x 96 mm, 4½ x 3½ inches, blue boards, coloured illustration to upper cover: huge doll clasping crying little girl, (95) pages, half-title present but probably lacking front endpaper. Title page printed red and black with vignette of do…lls, 23 very pretty colour plates, a few black and white vignettes on reverse of plates. Wonderful story: a little girl changes places with her doll and is not always treated as kindly as she would wish. Lots of toys, a large jolly golliwog who sings at the ball and a friendly Dutch doll. Expertly recased, head and tail of spine, spine edges and corners slightly worn, boards faintly foxed. A touch of colour to 2 black and white vignettes, contents otherwise bright and clean. A very good copy of a delightful Rosa Petherick book. Our book is published under Humphrey Milford's name only, in London. Later copies bear the imprint Humphrey Milford, Oxford University Press. Dutton, NY, no date but circa 1905, No. 1872 in the Little Mother Series, listed as number 5 in the Little Mother Stories on the last page, unpaginated but approx. 80 heavy paper pages, 36 full page chromolith illustrations plus two other color illustrated pages being the title… page and the last story page, darling teddy bear illustrations by Rosa C. Petherick, 4-3/8"x 5-1/2", hardcover, green cloth spine with full color chromolith illustrated front cover and plain grey paper back cover, green endpapers with white bears, edge and corner wear, corners rubbed through to the boards, spine ends worn, 1/4" tear bottom of front edge of spine, covers scratched and rubbed although the front cover is still quite bright, many interior hinge cracks, half-title page and one other page have been neatly taped in with archival rice paper tape, pages are yellowing around edges and many are soiled although most of the illustrated pages are relatively clean, one image has an 1" long tear at the bottom, text block still together but delicate, book good- {This is an extremely scarce book and the teddy bears are totally charming.} (G-) 5106 [HLss72MA].
