An early work of railway interest published only a couple of years after the inauguration (26 August 1837) of the first steam railway in France to operate for both freight and passengers (connnecting Paris and the town of St. Germain). Flachat was a distinguished civil engineer from N"mes who in his youth had made a study of the London docks and had been involved in the planning of the Paris-St. Germain line. Einzige Ausgabe dieser überaus frühen und seltenen Projektbeschreibung. - In den Städten Metz und Saarbrücken haben sich unabhängig voneinander zwei Komitees gebildet, die den Bau von Eisenbahnlinien befördern wollten und sich für den Bau der Verbindungsstrecke zwischen den beiden Städten zusammenschlossen. Mit der Ausarbeitung der hier vorgestellten Pläne wurden die beiden bedeutenden Eisenbahningenieure Flachat und Petiet beauftragt. Die Realisierung verzögerte sich jedoch durch bürokratische Hemmnisse der Regierungen in Berlin und München, sodass die Strecke erst 1852 in Betrieb genommen werden konnte. - Flachat (1802-1873) war als Chefingenieur der Bahngesellschaft Paris-St. Germain maßgeblich am Bau der am 28. August 1837 eröffneten ersten französischen Eisenbahnstrecke beteiligt, die ausschließlich mit Dampflokomotiven betrieben wurde.
