Seine Architekten, von 1883 an zuerst Arnold Geiser, ab 1898 dann Gustav Gull, entwarfen damit einen der ersten neuen Bauten im mittelalterlichen Viertel links… der Limmat. Mit dem Rest des früheren Frauenklosters, der Fraumüsterkirche, zu einem Strassengeviert zusammengefasst und mit den Überresten des Kreuzganges verbunden, weist die neugotische Architektur des Gullbaus auf Kontinuitäten und Brüche in der Stadtgeschichte hin.2007 2010 haben die Architekten Pfister Schiess & Tropeano eine umfassende Renovation des 127 Jahre alten Gebäudes mit seinen rund 300 Räumen vorgenommen. Der Veränderungsprozess ist in zahlreichen Bildern dokumentiert worden. Der Leser erhält dadurch einen spannenden Einblick in die Geschichte des Stadthauses sowie in architektonische, technische und denkmalpflegerische Aspekte des Umbaus. 1200 gr.
