Us servent les desseins religieux et politiques des dramaturges, se plient a leurs preoccupations civiques, astrologiques et scientifiques, morales et philosophiques. Les trente-quatre communications rassemblees dans ce volume, precedees d'un essai de F. Boespflug, s'interessent aussi bien aux modalites techniques de la representation scenique du divin qu'a ses enjeux litteraires, spirituels et sociaux. Elles touchent toutes les aires linguistiques de l'Europe occidentale, du Portugal a l'Allemagne, de l'Angleterre a 1'Italie sans oublier les tragedies latines.
