Condizione: Very Good. Guy Arnoux, Hervé Baille, Bérard, Ray Bret-Koch, Paul Colin, Dignimont, Élisabeth Gross, Claude Lepape, Georges de Pogedaieff, Touchagues. (illustratore). First Edition. Original drawing of a French Legionnaire along with flamboyant inscription by artist and famed book illustrator Guy Arnoux. Of the printed program, this is No. 122 of 250 copies, all on Vélin du Marais Crévecoeur. Portfolio, in size, quarto, 28.5 by 19.5 cm. Unpaginated, with gatherings and leaves loose, as issued. Three folded sheets, together, 12 pages, followed by 12 leaves, each with a plate, and finally another gathering. Of the dozen plates, ten have color, and of these, six are full color plates, or at least have more than two colors. The Arnoux drawing is spread between two pages -- the final page of the third gathering and the first plate in the series which happens to be his printed illustrated contribution to the program. Arnoux's inscription and illustration are rendered in a thick black pencil. The Legionnaire is rendered in quarter profile. Behind him is a scribbled Legionnaire flame emblem -- the emblem is ubiquitous throughout the program, of course. The drawing is a complement to Arnoux's dramatic stylized Arc de Triomphe, the unknown soldier and flame vignette centered under the arch, its rich coloring a magnet to the eye. Arnoux made yet another contribution to the program -- one of the other color plates, this one, sponsored, it would seem, by a Parisian restaurant. The artwork is of a decidedly chunky manchild seraph, sporting a hat and scarf and nothing else. It is really the only illustration in the program to have perhaps a touch of whimsy. Yet the other plates, all sponsored by one business or another, celebrate the Legionnaires in all different ways and styles. Leatherette band serving as spine we assume replaced paper. The rest of the outer folder has moderate wear and soiling. Within light wear. Light card with leatherette spine band.
