THe book is bound in blue cloth with gilt patterned front cover and titling in gilt on the spine. The back hinge is cracked exposing the webbing, but the text block is firm. Black coated endpapers. Top edges bright gilt. Fore-edges rough-cut. Pages are clean, smooth and unmarked. Includes two illustrations in black and white with two tissue guards each, one of which is captioned in red. Th blank tissue guard for the frontis is lightly foxed. Please see all images.

Circa 1886 Edition. *Attractive, bright, solid 19th century book in early example of a dustjacket* There is a water spill: rippling to hardback boards, about an inch and a half from the bottom (front cover) and about 3 inches from the bottom (back cover.) No internal marks. Interior is pleasant. Ex-library. Remnants of a ribbon bookmark laid in. The dustjacket is a survivor: whole with edgewear and chips; about 96% present. This is the undated variant (circa 1900) from Paris publishing house Garnier Freres. A Belle Epoque book with its padded boards, 8 color exterior, heavy stock, and rugged sewn binding.
