There is an additional recipe penciled in opposite the title page, and the last two blank pages carry the handwritten story of a tragic collapse of a marriage in the early 1950s. A collection of meat-free recipes developed by Mrs Pitcairn-Knowles, for 20 years the cook at the Riposo health spa in Hastings, Sussex.
