Unbound. Condizione: Very Good. Approximately 8¼" x 4¼". Laid paper. Small perimeter nicks, tears at the folds and a touch of toning, very good. A pay voucher for six pounds and 12 shillings submitted to Connecticut State Treasurer John Lawrence to William Pitkin (IV) as payment "for service as clerk of the Council," likely the Connecticut Council of Safety but also possibly for his role as clerk of the State General Assembly. It is Signed at the bottom by George Pitkin and Andrew Adams. The voucher, dated February 9, 1783, is in Pitkin's hand, and Signed and docketed by him on the back. William and George were the sons of Connecticut Govern William Pitkin III and together founded what is the first gunpowder mill in Connecticut to supply the Continental Army and the second overall in the American Colonies. William served on the Connecticut Committee of Safety, which advised the governor in military matters, and following the war was named to Connecticut Supreme Court, where he eventually served as Chief Justice, as well as attended the Continental Congress in 1884. Likewise Andrew Adams was a delegate to Congress and Connecticut Chief Justice, as well as Signer of the Articles of Confederation. George Pitkin served with the 4th Regiment of Minutemen and led troops during the siege of Boston. A nice Revolutionary War document signed by three notable men.
