Original paper covered coloured baords, with a blue cloth spine, illustration to the front board shows two children reading a previous edition of the annual, boards are clean and bright, some edge wear in the form of rubbing, corners are a little bumped, hand written dedication to the front endpaper, 'Marjorie from Auntie Ethel Christmas 1906, ' illustrated endpapers white background pale blue print sea-creatures and mermaids, delightful coloured frontispiece which is of children on a beach with a net full of crabs, 'A Good Catch, ' With Stories by C Manville Fenn, Rev Theo Wood, D H Parry, Arthur Daniels, C T Meade, L L Weedon, Sheila Braine and other well-known authors. Not paginated, the illustrations are absolutely enchanting, six coloured plates including the frontispiece, there is a particularly gorgeous coloured plate of dogs in Highland dress playing golf, the artist is not named in the majority of the pictures most are really cute, there black and white plates and illustrations in the text. One black and white plate accompanying 'The Storymaker, ' shows two children reading a book surrounded by flowers that all have faces, the flowers are also intent on listening to the story which is titled ' Happy Children' and is by A L Bowley. The pages of the book are free from scribbling or marks however there is a litlte browning to the outer edges of the pages, this does not detract from the text or the pictures, however the final coloured plate is a more browned to the extreme bottom edge, this is a picture of a little girl trying to introduce her dog to a new cat, the dog is not enthusiastic. The picture is called 'Why Can't you be Good and Make Friends, ' A compendium of stories and poems for children that would still be seen as beautiful today. Collectble. Published by.

Large 8vo in publisher's green cloth with bold 4 color pictorial design to cover board. Titles in gilt to cover and in black to spine. Illustrated with numerous lithographs, including 6 full page chromolithographs. Illustrated by a variety of artists; the chromo plates are all signed E Lance or EL for Evelyn lance. Many other images signed. Presumably published by Nister in 1903 as an "annual" with a very similar title, then reissued in 1905. A combined search for either example finds only 4 copies held institutionally as catalogued by Worldcat. Contents are complete and clean. Binding is shaken and the frontis is loose and laid in with some mild chipping along the leaf's edges.Halo toning throughout and the pages have the appearance of fragility, though there are no chips or edge tears other than those to the chromo plate at front. Boards bright and clean with just light shelf rubbing at edges. Scarce color plate childrens' title. VG-.

An attractive example with wear to the edges of the board corners but the illustration to the front remaining clean and bright. The blue cloth spine is present with only minor rubbing to the tips. The contents are entirely complete with no loose or torn pages. There is an ink inscription dated Christmas 1914 otherwise no further inscriptions or stamps. The text block is square and tight.
