The pagination is somewhat complex, as some pages were left blank in anticipation of adding future information on loose sheets that were to be pasted onto the indicated blank page. Here we have some additions that were not pasted but were correctly placed: pp. 34-35, 35a-35b, 54-54a, 62-62a, 76a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, and 132a. Approximately 15 spaces remain without their additions. The original cover is in good condition but shows some tanning and a few stains (see images). The interior, however, is in very good condition, only very slightly worn, but nothing major or noticeable.

It relates to the period from 23 Nov 1943 when the US occupied Makin Atoll to 29 Aug 1944 when US forces landed on Ngesebus Island (Appendix A). Sections cover a firm base and its defence, reconnaissance and information, conduct of attack, arms and weapons, intelligence, and Japanese methods, with appendices containing the diary of events, signal communications, the use of man-pack flame throwers, and Japanese infiltration tactics. The map, 76x47cm, covers the region from the East Africa coast (W) to the Hawaii Islands (E) on a scale of 426.85 miles to 1 inch with enlarged insets for New Guinea, New Britain, and Saipan.

By this time, the Fourteenth Army had "fought its way clear of the mountains and jungles of North Burma and emerged to engage the Japanese in the dry zone of Central Burma" (Foreword). Chapter 1 gives a diary of key events and Fourteenth Army and Japanese plans. Chapter 2 operations in the Arakan. Chapter 3 an account of three operations including General Stilwell's advance into Burma, the Japanese drive into Assam, and 3 Indian Division's long range penetration into North Burma.
