Aggiungi al carrelloCouverture rigide. Condizione: Bon. Paris, Ernest Bourdin & Cie, 1854.

Aggiungi al carrello1904 London, 1st edn, 302pp, 113 text illus, 5 photogravures, and 1 fold-out colored text map and 1 fold-out colored map in rear pocket. The third and last book by this famous Asian sheep and ibex hunter. In 1900 Prince Demidoff, his wife Sophie and a companion of earlier trips St George Littledale, traveled by rail from St. Pet…ersburg to Moscow and then to Vladivostok, this part of the journey alone took 27 days! From there they took a boat and via the Sea of Okhotsk reached Petropavlovsk. They then hunted along the Pacific side of the Kamchatka Peninsula. Demidoff had brought with him his valet Cristo and a photographer named Tallent plus 4 tons of supplies! Several journeys inland were made and numerous sheep in bear were shot after many frustrations. The land was so remote and devoid of humans that Demidoff remarked that the shooting of sheep was more collecting than sport as they seemed devoid of fear of people. Another indication of the remoteness of the land was the discovery by Prince Demidoff of a giant lake not found on any known map; he named it in honor of his wife. All indications are that Demidoff and Littledale were the first sport hunters ever to collect these sheep. Interestingly enough the party's return journey was impossible overland as the Chinese Boxer Rebellion had broken out then they were forced to take a boat back to Europe. The book deals exclusively with bears and snow sheep on the Russian Kamchatka Peninsula. Now that snow sheep hunting (Ovis nivicola) is open to foreigners in Russia this book is even more scarce than before. Scarce and sought-after item. A very good plus copy; no shelf wear, cloth and gilt bright, spine very, inner hinges good, no pen markings, no book plate, a very few light pencil markings on prelim, frontis page slightly foxed. Map in rear pocket browned somewhat, otherwise complete, properly folded and without a single tear. A copy that is one out of dozens condition wise.

Aggiungi al carrello1898 London, 1st edn, 319pp, many illus, fold-out map. One of the most sought-after books written on the tur, especially the Western, or Kuban tur. As in his other books, the Prince hunted for long periods of time and bagged many fine heads. In fact the trophies that he took then are still today among the biggest heads that ever… came from the Caucasus. Also includes hunting for Caucasus wisent, stag, and bezoar ibex. The book consists of three separate narrative sections on trips taken by Prince Demidoff and Dr. Levik, his hunting companion. The first trip is to the Kuban district, the second trip is along the Persian-Russian frontier and the last trip is to the Kuban district once more, but further East than the first trip. Undoubtedly the scarcest of all three Demidoff's work. Very good copy, front inner hinge good, rear inner hinge weak, sharp corners, bright gilt, period book plate. Spine discolored as is the case with virtually all copies. Much better than average.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Good +. First Edition. Small quarto, 324pp., illustrated, plus 8pp of advertisements. Folding map in pocket at rear, a trifle toned on the verso, but the map itself bright and clean, with no tears. A good copy in the publisher's pale blue cloth, stamped in gilt. Spine cocked and dust-soiled, with wear to t…he spine ends. Some foxing to title page and frontispiece. Corners gently worn. Inner hinges tender, but holding (though the rear has a very thin partial crack). Handsome armorial bookplate on the front paste-down. A scarce and extremely well-illustrated memoir of sheep hunting in the far reaches of Mongolia and the Russian borderlands. The author was a wealthy Russian prince, whose means allowed him to go on these kinds of adventures. Printed on heavy coated paper, thus prone to wear. This is a decent, complete, internally clean copy, with no sophistications.
