Fredrika Bremer, née le 17 août 1801 à Åbo en Suède ? ville aujourd'hui connue sous le nom de Turku, car en Finlande ? et décédée le 31 décembre 1865 dans son château d'Årsta près de Stockholm, est un auteur suédois et une féministe. Elle a eu une grande influence en Suède dans les débats de société, sur la question du droit des femmes. Fredrika Bremer est née à Åbo en Finlande, alors province suédoise, mais sa famille déménage à Stockholm alors qu'elle n'a que trois ans ; elle passe sa jeunesse entre la ville et le proche château d'Årsta. L'année suivante, Sophie Adlersparre fonde le journal Tidskrift för hemmet directement inspiré du roman ; c'est le début pour Adlersparre de son travail d'organisation du mouvement féministe suédois. À l'occasion des réformes de 1862, Bremer obtient le droit de vote des femmes pour les élections municipales. Entre 1849 à 1851, elle voyage aux États-Unis et à Cuba, mais s'exprime « déçue » de cette « terre promise », à cause en particulier de l'esclavage ; elle est considérée comme la première à avoir écrit sur le gospel. Elle visite aussi la Suisse, l'Italie, la Palestine et la Grèce entre 1856 et 1861, et écrit les récits de ses voyages.…
