John Purdham's novel "Little Acorns" is written to closely follow his own experiences in Europe and North Africa during World War II. Purdham's novel begins with a small boy growing up in Tyneside between the two wars. The family is poor, and highlights include moving to a council estate with the luxury of an indoor toilet and a bathroom. When the boy leaves school at fourteen he finds a white-collar job until he enlists in the RAF during the Second World War. The greater part of "Little Acorns" is about life in the Services and what it was really like to be at war - the long, repeated training, the doomed romances, the thrill of action. This book will not only stir memories for those who served in Europe and North Africa but it is also highly readable to a general audience life as itreally was in those far-off, extraordinary times. This first edition copy is sold in MINT condition in a MINT unclipped dustwrapper. Size: 356pp. HARDBACK.…
