Jacket is now protected in a mylar cover. Some light bumps to head and tail of boards and spine ends, with some light wear to tail of boards. Signed and inscribed inblack ink by Hawkins on dedication page. Interior otherwise clean and unmarked. Binding sound. Children's author Quail Hawkins was also a bookseller, and worked at Sather Gate bookshop in Berkeley for over 40 years. Hawkins hired a young Beverly Cleary in 1941 to assist with the Christmas rush at the bookshop, which along with her encouragement, led to Cleary's first book contract. Hawkins also provided encouragement to Ursula K. Le Guin, who was born and raised in Berkeley and started her writing career in the late 1950s. . Signed by Author. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good.
