Aggiungi al carrelloCondizione: Sehr gut. Zustand: Sehr gut | Seiten: 740 | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | The question how alcohol alters mood states and why this may end up becoming an addiction is puzzling alcohol researchers since decades. In this volume, an assembly of highly distinguished experts and leaders in alcohol addiction research provides lucid presentations of the current knowledge and research challenges as well as interesting viewpoints on future research directions aimed to stimulate communication and convergence between clinical and preclinical researchers, and to renew interest in the vibrant field of alcohol addiction research among a wide scientifically minded audience. Five Current Topics are discussed in this volume: Neurobiological mechanisms of alcoholism, Genetics, Clinical phenotypes and their preclinical models, Brain imaging, and Translational approaches for treatment development, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological. These areas have in our opinion brought alcohol research substantially forward and influenced our thinking about how to reach our common paramount goal, namely to offer effective treatment solutions for an extensive group of patients with largely unmet medical needs.

Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. Behavioral Neurobiology of Alcohol Addiction explores the forefront of addiction research, integrating fundamental neurobiological mechanisms with translational insights into human phenotypes. Alcohol addiction remains a major public health concern with extensive medical and societal implications. Understanding its intricate interplay between neurobiology, behavior, and treatment is essential for developing effective interventions. This edition is structured into two volumes: Basic Mechanisms and Animal Studies and Translational Studies and Human Phenotypes. The first volume examines addiction conceptualization, stress and reward systems, and chronic pain. It further explores the cellular, synaptic, and circuit-level consequences of alcohol, incorporating computational and neuroimaging approaches. It also addresses the replication crisis in preclinical research and proposes guidelines to mitigate its impact. The second volume shifts the focus to human studies, covering human laboratory approaches, ecological momentary assessment, molecular imaging, and the challenges of bridging preclinical and clinical research. The book also highlights emerging treatments, including psychological interventions, neuromodulation techniques, and the role of the gut-brain axis.Alcohol use fundamentally alters mood states via brain mechanismsan insight widely acknowledged by experts and laypeople alike. However, debates surrounding the brain disease model of addiction have intensified in recent years. This collection of articles contributes to this ongoing discussion by reinforcing the importance of a neurobiological perspective in addiction science and demonstrating how advances in neuroscience translate into more effective therapeutic approaches.Written by leading experts in the field, both volumes provide a comprehensive yet accessible resource for addiction researchers, neuroscientists, clinicians, and students. The book aims to deepen the understanding of alcohol addiction and inspire new directions in research and treatment. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Alcoholism is a pathological behavioural syndrome, characterised by comp- sive alcohol use, craving and relapses, even recurring after many years of abstinence. It is suggested that chronic alcohol abuse leads to persistent changes within several neurochemical pathways in the brain and furthermore that an imprinted drug and addiction memory may scarcely be extinguished. Hence, the question arises as to whether there ought to be a reasonable hope that pharmacological drugs will be developed that interfere with an addiction memory, and as a result, finally lead to a cure In this book, leading preclinical and clinical experts in the field of alcohol relapse prevention strive to furnish an answer to this question. None of the researchers or clinicians believes in a magic bullet that will be of help to all alcoholic patients in overcoming this disease. However, there is now convi- ing evidence demonstrating that specific subpopulations of alcoholic patients experience satisfactory benefit from currently available treatments. Today we have two medications for relapse prevention on the market - acamprosate and naltrexone. Although, currently, only a minority of alcoholic patients benefit from these medications, the approval of these compounds may be considered a hallmark in the field of psychopharmacology, even comparable to the era when the first antidepressant compounds were introduced. In recent years we have been witnessing an enormous growth in the science and knowledge regarding the field of relapse prevention.
