Se ha dicho ya en muchas ocasiones que la génesis textual de La Celestina es una de las más complejas de la literatura medieval y renacentista en castellano. Es, efectivamente, una obra hecha de múltiples versiones y con una tradición impresa plagada de variantes de autor(es), corrector(es) y cajistas. Estos últimos son responsables, como lo ha evidenciado José Luis Canet para la Comedia, de gran parte de las variantes menores que salpican la tradición impresa (se añade u omite alguna palabra o grupo de palabras por razones tipográficas). Son tantas las variantes de dicha obra que, a falta de un primitivo manuscrito de autor, es muy difícil afirmar a ciencia cierta cuál es el texto escrito por el presunto autor Fernando de Rojas.
