On the front free endpaper the illustrator has lavishly inscribed this presentation copy thus: "Let's be bloody common + write To Elizabeth with love from Ralph STEADman. " Underneath, he has added a doodled sad face. A scarce title in its own right, this is rarely seen signed by the illustrator. Condition is very good plus with just a faint stain to the upper cover. Fine in fine dustjacket, athe artwork by Ralph Steadman, a nice copy of Dahl's account of the discovery in Suffolk in 1942 of Roman silver pieces which came to be called the Mildenhall Treasure, now held by the British Museum. One of Dahl's few non-fiction stories, it originally appeared in book form in his The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar, and was revised for this solo appearance.
