Nach seiner Berufung an die Berliner Universität im Herbst 1818 bis zu seinem plötzlichen Tod im Herbst 1831 las Hegel in jedem Sommersemester ü…ber Logik, insgesamt also 13 mal. In seinen Vorlesungsankündigungen verwendete Hegel dabei stets den traditionellen Titel Logik und Metaphysik, mit Ausnahme der letzten Logikvorlesung vom Sommersemester 1831, die unter dem Titel Logik angekündigt wurde und auch in der hier edierten Nachschrift von Karl Hegel diesen Titel trägt.Von besonderer Bedeutung für die Hegel-Forschung sind insbesondere die Ausführungen zur Seinslehre in dieser, von seinem Sohn angefertigten Nachschrift wegen ihrer zeitlichen Nähe zur Entstehung der stark erweiterten zweiten Auflage des ersten Buches der Wissenschaft der Logik, der Lehre vom Seyn', die von Hegel kurz vor seinem Tod fertiggestellt wurde und 1832 posthum erschienen ist. Diese zeitliche Parallelität von Hegels Umarbeitung der Lehre vom Sein und seiner Logikvorlesung vom Sommer 1831 mag mit dazu beigetragen haben, dass die Seinslehre innerhalb der Vorlesung - im Vergleich mit den proportionalen Anteilen in der Vorlesungsvorlage, der Enzyklopädie von 1830 - im Verhältnis zur Wesenslehre und zur Begriffslehre mehr Raum einnimmt. Trotz dieser Verschiebung der Umfangsanteile zugunsten der Seinslehre, die in der Ausgabe von 1832 in die Augen springt, führt Hegel in der Vorlesung von 1831 jedoch auch das vollständige Programm der übrigen Teile seiner spekulativen Logik mit erläuternden Kommentaren durch. Die Nachschrift von Karl Hegel birgt somit eine Fülle von Hinweisen auf geplante Umarbeitungen auch der übrigen Teile seiner Logik, zu denen Hegel aufgrund seines plötzlichen Todes nicht mehr gelangt war.
