Condizione: Buono (Good). 8vo. (4), 105 leaves. A-O8 (-O8, a blank). With the printer's device on the title-page. Old limp vellumBasso, 213-214; Edit 16, CNCE 24913; Quondam, p. 310; N. Vacca, Cesare Rao da Alessano detto ?Valocerca', in: ?Archivio storico pugliese?, I, 1948, p. 31, no. 12. THIS is the last edition printed in the sixteenth century. The work was first published at Brescia by Lisandro Bozzola in 1562 and then reissued in 1567 at Pavia by Girolamo Bartoli, who also, in 1573, printed the ?definitive' edition on which all later editions (1575, 1576, 1580, 1584, 1585 twice, 1590, 1591, and 1596) were based. It was translated into French by Gabriel Chappuys (Lyon, 1584) and put on the index in 1590, with the reserve to be expurgated. Most of the 61 pieces in this collection are fictitious letters, and burlesque and paradox tracts (cf. G. Genovese, ?Per shignazzarmi del mondo'. La lettera faceta nel Cinquecento, in: ?Filologia e critica?, XXVII, 2002, pp. 252-255; see also A. de Nichilo, Due esperienze marginali: Andrea Calmo e Cesare Rao, in: ?Le carte messaggiere. (M.C. Figorilli, ?Meglio ignorante che dotto'. L'elogio paradossale in prosa nel Cinquecento, Napoli, 2008, p. 154). (the fictitious letters and other pieces are in italic)Imperatore de Matti a gli Arcisavi (l. 1r)Instabile a gli Arcisavi (l. 6v)Il Pedante (l. 11r)Mercurio (l. 14r)Della Valle, Martino. Legatura antica in mezza pelle, dorso a 5 nervi con titoli dorati su tassello, piatti in carta marezzata, tagli spruzzati rossi, in ottavo cm 20 x 15, cc.

Cantamessa, 6562. Manque à Adams et à Graesse.
