Aggiungi al carrelloCloth. Condizione: Very Good. A charming early illustrated edition of Baron Munchausen, with folding plates, recounting the Baron"s fantastical voyages involving journeys to the moon and improbable hunting exploits. In the publisher's original brown cloth binding. This copy is undated. Dated here using Jisc, from a copy held at t…he British Library.Comprising two volumes in one. These stories were first anonymously published in German in 1785 by Rudolf Erich Raspe, before being translated, expanded, and popularised in English by Gottfried August Bürger and subsequent editors.Illustrated with twenty-three engraved plates, four folding, and a frontispiece. Collated, this copy appears to lack three plates: The Baron and the Coach-horse, The Seaman and Sea-gull, and The Baron and Whale, as called for in the list of plates. There is no discernible evidence of removal, this copy was most likely issued in this state.A classic collection of fantastical and exaggerated tales recounting the improbable exploits of Baron Munchausen, loosely inspired by the real Baron Hieronymus Karl Friedrich, Freiherr von Münchhausen, whose adventures include journeys to the moon, encounters with extraordinary creatures, and feats of impossible ingenuity. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Slight fading to spine and extremities. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities resulting in minor loss to cloth. Slight loss to head and tail of spine, with minor pulling. Slight rubbing to boards. One or two very slight handling marks to boards. Previous bookseller's discreet label to front paste down, partially obscured by pencil scribbles. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean if characteristically age toned with one or two spots, heavier to first and last few leaves and fore edge. Folding plate facing page 7 partially folded incorrectly, causing it to protrude slightly from the text block, with a three inch closed tear to the fore edge of this plate. Very Good. None Stated (illustratore). book.
