Über den gezähmten Rhein hinweg reichen wir Alemannen uns, wie eins unsere Urväter, brüderlich die Hände. Neue, breite Brücken werden ge schlagen: Bregenz und Lindau, Basel und Lörrach, Colmar und Freiburg Straßburg und Kehl sind nun wieder friedlich zusammenarbeitende Nach barstädte. Nach der bedauerlichen Trennung rücken die verwandtet Volksstämme am Oberrhein kulturell einander wieder näher. Als ich mit einigen gleichgesinnten Kollegen und Freunden an 15. November 1977 in Straßburg auf der neuen Universität im Rahmen der ?Alemannischen Woche" einen deutsch-französischen Dichterabern veranstaltete und zwei Tage später im Auditorium des Rundfunk gebäudes ein alemannisches Dichtertreffen unter dem Motto ?Vier. Länder, eini Sproch" einleitete, wurde ich mir bewußt, daß etwas von weittragender Bedeutung geschah: neues alemannisches Bewußtsein war: aufgekommen, neues Verbrüdern bahnte sich an. Gewiß, die Alemannet haben noch nie einen König gehabt, gemeinsam gehört ihnen aber de: stolze Obere Rhein, der sie mit seinen Schiffen und Brücken zusammen führt, wenn er auch hin und wieder willkürlich da und dort zur Grenze bestimmt wurde. Und wenn sie auch vier verschiedene Nationalhymne' anstimmen, so haben sie doch miteinander etwas gemein, was sie über Falle Sperren hinweg immer noch eng verbindet, nämlich die gemeinsam alemannische Mundart. Das Alemannische ist ein origineller, bilderreicher und ausdrucksvoller oberdeutscher Dialekt, der im ganzen Südwesten des deutschen Sprachraums wie vor Jahrhunderten noch kräftig und klangvoll erschallt und trotz des schnellen Vorrückens der europäischen Kultursprachen für 7 Millionen Menschen ein beliebtes, tägliches Kommunikationsmittel bleibt. Trotz ihrer lautlichen und lexikalischen Vielfalt bilden die alemannischen Mundarten zwischen Schwarzwald, Vogesen, Jura, Alpen und Bodensee eine lebendige Alltagssprache, die durch ihre bildhafte und kraftvolle Einfachheit den eingeborenen Dichtern und Sängern ungeahnte Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten gibt: sie können nämlich damit alles sagen und singen, was sie beseelt oder bedrückt, sowohl im Stil der traditionellen Heimatdichtung als auch im Geist der modernen Protest- und Kampfliteratur, die, durch neue Themen beseelt, durch neuen Stoff genährt, einen unerhofften Aufschwung erlebt.
