I printed on semi-transparent glassine paper, remainder all dyazo-prints on thick blueprint paper stock, by Charles Rullman Engineer (many leaves w/ creasing, corners worn, some with closed tears, predation to outer fore-edges, old tape reparis), in original two-post post-binder, now re-coloured after several previous owners changes, from the library of A. Rodney Eckerson (1930-2024), former purchasing agent for the Port of Portland, and noted amateur photographer. First edition, thus, of this massive and remarkably scarce realty atlas for Portland, Oregon, chronicling its' explosive growth following the Lewis & Clark Exposition into post-World War I, and early 1920's. These real estate atlases were sold in installments to Portland area real estate agents, land use boards, and public institutions, with installments appearing from 1910 through 1928. This atlas, with key map index leaves, detail street-by-street, and plat-by-plat the entire city, providing essential information on the evolving ownership of Portland-area properties at the beginning of the 20th century. Although the 1928 edition was later microfilmed for use, the 1910-1922 edition remains available only for use at two Portland area libraries by appointment. Nearly all of these original atlases perished over decades from years of heavy use, and these were the prized fixtures at a Portland area real estate office until the 1970s. Several of the neighborhoods included here, such as the Gainsborough were largely destroyed and cleared later for freeway construction of Interstate 5 in the 1960s. Portland Blue Print Co. was founded in 1910 by Stevenson (1863-1938), a Scottish-American civil engineer and surveyor, and Wicks (1881-1955) a British-American Surveyor. They first entered the copyright for their signature Portland Realty Atlas in 1911 with the initial 11 sheets of Vol. I. Rullman (b. 1876) was a long time Portland Civil Engineer and surveyor, who contracted with the Portland Blue Print Co. to produce maps for these atlases. Worldcat locates 2 copies of a "1914" version (Multnomah County, OHS); 2 copies of "1928" version (U of O, OHS); a set of both is located at Yale.
