Luxurius commemorative publication on the occasion of the entering in service of the new steamer of the company in 1923 ''De Belgenland ''. The Red Star Line shipping company of Antwerp, played an important role in the shipping of emigrants from the old Europe to the new continent in the last quarter of the 19th c. and the first quarter of the 20th c.

Belgenland was the flagship of the Red Star Line and an icon of modernist luxury liner-style: Belfast-bulit and originally commissioned in 1917 as a British troop ship, it was refitted as an ocean cruiser. At 204 metres long, weighing 27,000 tonnes and carrying 2,700 it speciali…sed in long distance and world cruises. Its most famous passenger was perhaps Albert Einstein, who travelled from New York to Antwerp in 1933, arriving in Europe to find Hitler had been made chancellor. 6 numbered menu cards, with detachable postcard illustrations (all intact) printed in gold and colours, 2 with printed menus (December 12, 1925) the others blank. Plus one additional card with detachable monochrome postcard of Japan. A few small spots but overall very fresh.

Roughly dated from the listing at the top of the agent in Chicago, Wasmandorff & Heinemann, a firm which went bankrupt in 1896.

With a coloured typographical border ( renaissance groteske ). fold in the middle. Rare menu dating from the beginning of the cruise… career of the SS Belgenland ( started in 1923 ). The ship was sold in 1935 to the Atlantic Transport Company and soon after scrapped.
