Impressum. - Holz, (1863 - 1929), trat nach dem Abitur (1881) mit den Brüdern Hart und ihrem literarischen Verein "Durch" in Verbindung, war erster Schriftleiter der "Freien Bü…hne", zog sich jedoch zunehmend als Einzelgänger zurück und geriet in erhebliche wirtschaftliche Schwierigkeiten, die er nur vorübergehend durch nichtliterarische Arbeit, Unterstützung von Freunden und Mäzenen sowie zwei Arbeitsstipendien der Augsburger Schillerstiftung lindern konnte. Aus der Lebens- und Arbeitsgemeinschaft mit Johannes Schlaf 1887-92 entstanden unter dem gemeinsamen Pseudonym Bjarne P. Holmsen u.a. die Skizzen und Erzählungen Papa Hamlet (1889), mit denen beide entscheidend zur Entstehung des deutschen Naturalismus beitrugen. Als Holz' Lebenswerk gilt Phantasus. Das ursprüngliche Gedicht von 1886 wurde 1898/99 in zwei Heften um jeweils 50 reimlose, in der Form unkonventionelle Gedichte vermehrt und 1924/25 erstmals als Gesamtausgabe (3 Bde.) veröffentlicht. H. schrieb auch dramatische Skizzen, Dramen und literarische Komödien. In dem parodistisch angelegten Dafnis (1904) ahmte er vortrefflich barocke Lyrik nach. Seine Erinnerungen Kindheitsparadies erschienen 1924. (DBE).
