    Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. Two volumes in one book (complete). A benign, sturdy copy. The boards have wear about all edges, corners, seams. The faces have some fading, scuffing, handling and shelving marks. The spine is sunned; there is wear to the head and foot. The boards and spine are efficient and steady. The contents are mild. The front and end papers have some tanning. The gutterings along the half-title page, between pp 266/267, 296/97, are cracked but the security and facility of the book is unaffected. The contents are clean, clear, bold, certain, tidy, confident, only very lightly worn about the edges of a few pages, sound. fk. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.

The private diaries of General Sir Robert Thomas Wilson, a British general and politician who served in Flanders, Egypt, the Iberian Peninsula, Prussia, and was seconded to the Imperial Russian Army in 1812. He sat as the Whig Member of Parliament, and later served as the Governor of Gibraltar. Containing information from missions and employments with the European armies in the campaigns of 1812, 1813, and 1814, from the invasion of Russia to the capture of Paris. From the personal notes of not only an experienced general but also a British politician during the events of Napoleon's disastrous retreat from Moscow. Edited by his nephew and son-in-law Reverend Herbert Randolph, a British clergyman. With publisher's catalogue to the rear of volume two. In the original green cloth binding. Externally. smart with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spines with the odd small mark to the cloth. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Light spotting to the first and last few pages. Very Good. book.

The first edition.Bound in lovely modern crushed morocco with gilt details and marbled paper to the boards, endpapers renewed, half title retained.Illustrated with a folding map to the rear, which has been hand coloured by a previous owner.Sir Robert Thomas Wilson's historical narrative of the 1812 French invasion of Russia led by Napoleon, and their retreat. Wilson was a British army officer who was seconded to the Imperial Russian Army during the time of the invasion, provided an interesting first hand account of the event. The work was edited by his nephew Herbert Randolph. Bound in half modern crushed morocco with marbled paper to the boards, endpapers renewed, half title retained. Externally lovely. Internally firmly bound with generally bright pages with the odd 'Malta Garrison Library' stamp to the front, and the odd spot, heavier to the front and rear. Closed tear to folding map, which has been hand coloured. Very Good Indeed. book.

Frontispiece portrait to volume I. Slight tenderness to the front hinge of volume I, wear to the head of the spine and adjacent part of the front joint of volume II, some general bumping and rubbing to the covers, else very good. Wilson had a distinguished career in the British army serving during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. He later served as the Whig MP for Southwark and governor of Gibraltar.
