Condizione: Good. 1st Edition. 756 pages +24pp of index, a very good plus looking hardback, professionally rebound over 100 yrs ago in an antiquarian blue quarter leather binding with ALL page edges are gold gilt, by a London library. Thus, the binding is perfect, but we've graded to Good as there's certainly some illustrated plates missing.

Some moderate sunning and tanning, particularly to spine.

Hardback. Bound in original blue cloth, some light wear only and still sound. Endpapers, browning, owner's inscription. Colour frontispiece + 41 further illustrations. The final page is browning the rest of the text and plates are clean and crisp. xviii + 176.

The book is in overall Good condition with tight binding but split seams in places. The red boards are grubby but presentable and intact. There is 306 pages including index and two unnumbered pages of adverts for volume one. There is a neat owner name written on the front end paper.

The table of descriptions of the engravings is somewhat inaccurate in that some engravings present are not included and quite a number of descriptions do not correspond to the actual placing of the engravings.While a few additional are present that are not described it appears that 3 engravings are lacking and where a Mexican marriage is indicated there is an engraving of a Peruvian marriage. Occasional mispagination. Full calf covers are bumped & rubbed & front cover is loose Black mo. label with gilt title on spine is loosening. Internally occasional stains and foxing & a cluster of pages are loose. The engravings are largely good. Fair + overall.

Condizione: Fair. cr 8vo, 647pp, 24 pp adverts, map at front and numerous engravings, engravings collated just one or two are in the wrong place as usual, map at front has a modest bit of a damp mark to top right , bit of foxing but not a lot, contents good , i its original calf binding which is rubed and bit worn front board becoming detached and spine cracked and worn so binding needs replacing , you could just get away with new spine as boards are sound but they are edge worn and scuffed, IMAGES can be sent of course, to see all.

Half-Leather. Condizione: Very Good. Published in 1813, this is a handsomely bound example of Nightingales Description of the County of Shropshire, this example being extra illustrated with Seventy-Seven extra plates and forty-eight extra pages of text. The book was originally the property of Sir Offley Wakeman with his name inscribed on the front endpaper, and a blind stamp of the family coat of arms. There is also a later owners bookplate to front pastedown. Book is bound in a nice quality half leather binding titled and decorated in gilt, page edges gilded all-round. CONDITION The binding is in nice condition with some light marking, internally there is some noticeable offsetting and browning to the original plates and opposing text pages, else contents in good general condition.

Hardback. Condizione: Good. Very clean tight text BUT most plates have noticeably browned adjoining leaves and some occasional heavish spotting in text. All edges gold. Very handsome modern half leather binding. a very good working copy.

Cloth. Condizione: Very Good. Not Stated (illustratore). A very scarce history of the nonconformist churches of the Blackburn District, illustrated with wonderfully detailed engravings. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bookplate to the front paste down. 32 illustrations. Collated complete. In this second volume on nonconformity in Lancashire, Thompson recounts a history of the Congregational churches and chapels, as well as a Unitarian chapel, in the Blackburn district of Lancashire. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally very smart, with some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Minor bumping also to the boards. Internally, the binding is slightly strained in a couple of places. Pages bright and clean, with just some spotting to the first and last pages. Very Good. book.

Cover edges bumped and rubbed. Spine deeply tanned and heavily rubbed. Endpapers foxed. Some foxing on a few inner pages, but otherwise clean and tight. The author was himself a Protestant, but professes to desire that Roman Catholicism, as a religion, be more fairly characterized through his work than it had been at the time in mainstream culture. He speaks in the Preface of an "Emancipation of Catholics" from anti-Catholic laws and punishments in England.
