Pages are moderately tanned and foxed throughout, heavier at end-papers, paste-downs and text-block edges. Previous owner's inscription to front free end-paper. Some occasional mild cracking to gutters throughou…t, binding is shaky. Heavy cracking at the hinges with exposed binding material. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Cloth has minor damp and dust stains. Mild crushing to spine ends. Minor fraying to cloth at spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Gilt lettering is darkened. Moderate tanning to spine.

Hardcover. Condizione: Fair. A very elegantly produced book. Royal blue Moroccan style boards with gilt decorative borders (and titles along the spine, which is coloured bottle green). Illustrated by Birkett Foster (whole-page b/w drawings - see example images). AEG. Marbled endpapers with patterned decorative gilt borders (fleu…r de lis). The text on each page is framed by red ink borders. Condition (external): really sound with some edgewear/fading in places. Internally, the impact of the passage of time is more obvious with mild to moderate tanning; plus occasional spotting throughout. This phenomenon is more apparent on the book's preliminary and final pages. pp.x vi, .630/8vo. NB we have tried to date this book from an entry at the end of the Preface - see image.
