Brown textured cloth binding with blind tooled double border to each cover and to the front cover a central gilt Roman portrait vignette, surrounded by gilt titles, gilt title…s to the spine, page edges rough trimmed, brown pastedowns and endpapers. Condition good, binding rubbed at corners and edges, front hinge crudely reinforced, inscriptions to front endpapers, title frontis prelims and ends spotted, tiny light water stain to part of upper edge of pages to last half of the book, other than this the pages and plates are generally very clean, with just a few faint spots to a few pages here and there. With numerous illustrations on 52 plates, 2 folding maps (1 hand-coloured), index and list of subscribers. With Fifty Two Illustrations By C. S. Beckett (illustratore).

Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and a slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and the extremities; a minor cockling to the cloth of the rear board. The cloth to the spine has slightly darkened. With a small bookseller sticker to the front pastedown, and an ex libris stamp to the title page. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with only a minor odd spot to the very occasional leaf. Illustrated with a colour folding map as frontispiece. Very Good. None (illustratore). book.

(Joints, headcaps and corners a little worn, rear hinge reinforced). A series of familiar and less well-known views of Bath and its surroundings by a resident of Bathwick Hill, Caroline Stothert. She was introduced to the diarist Francis Kilvert in 1871, and we are told that she was then 35 and the grand-daughter of George Stothert, the manager of the famous Bath engineering firm Stothert and Pitt.
