Selected from across the whole Bible, they cover a wide range of topics, including blessings, safety, peace, and eternal joys of heaven. Each promise is treated on a separate page. The author's intention is to help the reader find a promise suited to their situation and to establish their faith, promote their comfort, and influence their practice. The author's premise is that faith is not blind, but an intelligent understanding and reasoned acceptance of the truth and fact of God's Word. Throughout, the author has availed themselves of other helps within their reach, while the Bible has been both their text-book and their test-book. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

This rare second English edition of The Constitutions of the Several Independent States of America contains early printings of the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation, as well as the Declaration of Rights (a forerunner to the Declaration) and the Non-Importation Agreement, Congressâs response to taxation without representation. Also included are the 1778 Treaty of Amity and Commerce with France, the Treaty of Alliance with France, and the Provisional Articles of Peace signed by the United States and Great Britain in November 1782, whichâ"with only minor revisionsâ"became the definitive peace treaty the following year. The volume further features one of the earliest English printings of the important 1782 treaty between the United States and the Dutch Republic, the first concluded with a nation other than France, as well as the final Petition of Congress to the King, delivered in London by Richard Penn. Shortly after publication of the earlier 1782 edition, The Monthly Review described the work as âthe book which may be considered the Magna Carta of the United American States.â.

Jackson, 1737-1795, originally secretary to the bigamous Duchess of Kingston, was involved in laying a false charge of sodomy against the actor Samuel Foote in 1775. He was a preacher, journalist, playwright and radical sympathiser, being involved in negotiations in France. As the trial went against him, at his sentencing he took poison, probably provided by his wife, and dropped dead in the dock. The treason charges, extending over 12 pages, accused Jackson of encouraging the King's enemies in France to invade Ireland.
