OLD 034953 CARP This 1853 edition is a re-compilation of the 6 volumes into one. Unclear if all stories have been included. The format is to arrange the stories by "eveninngs" which consist of 1-8 "stories" which take about 11-15 pages of text. The brown cloth hard cover is holding together fairly well still though the head of the spine is quite chipped and the front hinge was exposed following the ffep, we have re-glued. Top of rear board has moisture damage which has stained the last several pages. Gold is still evident on the fore edges. Boards worn though to cardboard at the corners. There is foxing and browning of the pages throughout. Binding is tight. 446pp plus ads.

The spine ends and corners of the book covers have some light bumping and rubbing. The spine has a bit of light fading. There is one small spot of discoloration to the front cover. The rear inner hinge has cracked. The text pages are clean and bright. There is a previous owner's inked name on the front pastedown page and again on the front endpaper. There is also a previous owner's ink stamped name and address on the reverse of the front endpaper and title page. "Thomas Day (22 June 1748 28 September 1789) was a British author and abolitionist. He was well known for the book The History of Sandford and Merton (17831789) which emphasized Rousseauvian educational ideals. ".

In very good condition, spine and edges of boards sunned, ends and corners lightly bumped, some scattered foxing and staining. 506pp plus 2pp catalogue, with a Preface by Hartley dated 1 January 1852; the 34 chapters following Rolando's extensive travels across several continents, blending moral instruction with the geographical knowledge of the Napoleonic era, several of the tales illustrated by William Harvey's black and white full page engravings.
