Arrian of Nicomedia was responsible for several of the earliest texts to exist recording the reign of Alexander the Great. The Anabasis recounts the military conquests of Alexander, in particular those over the Persian Empire between 336 and 323 BCE. It remains the fullest account of the period, aided by its focus as a military history rather than a biography of Alexander or a broad history of Greece.
