William Graeme Rhind (1794-1862) a été officier dans la marine royale avant de devenir prêcheur pour le Brethren, ou Assemblée des frères, un mouvement chrétien centré sur l'étude des prophéties bibliques et la restauration d'Israël. C'est dans ce contexte qu'il faut resituer cette de reconstitution de l'image du tabernacle et du camp d'Israël dans le désert, à partir d'une étude littérale de la Bible. L'édition anglaise est de 1842, et ce sont les planches de cette édition, lithographiées et soigneusement enluminées à la main, qui sont reprises dans l'édition en français.…
