Very rare copy in the original wrapper. - This Danish-language work is a historically significant publication containing a collection of official recommendations, reports, and proposals regarding the Danish trade monopoly in Greenland. It is a fundamental work for the history of Greenland and Danish colonial policy. Published in Copenhagen at the expense of the Danish Ministry of the Interior, the book was compiled by Hinrich Rink, one of the most important Danish administrators and scholars associated with Greenland. It documents the work and findings of a special royal commission (*Commissionen til de grønlandske Anliggenders Overveielse*) that investigated the situation on the island between 1851 and 1856. Since 1776, the 'Kongelige Gronlandske Handel' (KGH) had held a strict monopoly on all imports to and exports from Greenland (involving products such as whale oil, seal skins, and fish). During this period, a fierce political debate raged over whether this state monopoly should be abolished in favor of the free market. The 1850s marked a crucial transitional period for Greenland; the report laid the groundwork for the subsequent modernization of its administration. Following these discussions, the compiler, Hinrich Rink, introduced the so-called 'Forstanderskaber' (local councils)-marking the very first form of local self-government and democratization for the Greenlanders.
