CONDITION: Very Good Plus, no names or other marks, pages bright and crisp, small spot on margin of a few, binding tight and unmarred, clean bright paste-on plate shows a little light soil and just a few scratches visible when the book is held to light, a bit of wear to extrems, margins of endpapers faded. Picture Book Hardback. A town mouse and country mouse variation, illustrated by Ritter in both German (Alexei Remison) and English versions. Between the one-eyed Zwick Zwack and Aunty Twinkle-Toes crying over her card game, this book frightened me when I was a child, even though the deep colours were fascinating. CONDITION: Very Good; no names or other marks, blue cloth faded, corner tips worn through, endpapers toned, light margin soil on some pages, tight, straight, good hinges. Picture Book Hardback. "Arranged from a German picture book by Lois Donaldson" The German picture book Im Mäusehäuschen (1930) has a rhyming narration by Albert Sixtus, but the arrangement of the binding and pictures seem to be the same, with a narrower margin. Later American reprints are narrower still. Full pictures in extraordinarily bright deep colours on each spread face text and blue and brown sketches. Drama comes when Farmer Brown begins to plow!
